Surviving a Thanksgiving Road Trip with Nexit

The idea of driving on Thanksgiving may send a shiver down your spine. But with Nexit and a little bit of planning, it can be easy and stress-free! We’re driving to Grandma’s house this holiday to meet up with family and have a grand Thanksgiving dinner. Nexit will help you reconnect with your loved ones this Thanksgiving, so follow us on our road trip from New York City to Harrisburg and see for yourself!

Thanksgiving road trip

Planning before setting off

Traveling during Thanksgiving, let alone traveling with kids, isn’t the easiest task – as seen during our road trip to Lake Tahoe. That’s why we recommend avoiding peak times (between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm). So we set off bright and early, leaving plenty of time for rest stops and detours along the way! We packed up our contributions for dinner – our homemade cranberry sauce and Thanksgiving slaw – in the trunk, padded with some ice packs. And then we were ready to hit the road.

Our Thanksgiving road trip began at the Big Apple itself, New York City. Here, we decided it would be a great opportunity to look for some last-minute Thanksgiving gifts for the family. Using Nexit’s City Mode feature that allows you to search an unlimited combination of brands and categories, we made it to all the stores we needed and ended up spending a bit too much at Macy’s.

Personalized road trip stops

We hit the road again, but soon tiredness kicked in, and we began to resent that early rise. And to no one’s surprise, the kids were hungry. Using Nexit’s Travmatch feature, we were able to search for countless options and found an exit along our route that had everything we needed – caffeine, food, and restrooms. We hit up Starbucks for that much-needed caffeine boost in the form of two pumpkin spice lattes – to get that fall feeling – and got a slice of pecan pie to-go. We took the kids to Dunkin’ for a snack and decided to buy more and box them up to take to Grandma’s house.

Nexit really did prove useful here. We found all the amenities that we needed at the same exit and didn’t have to add any extra time to our journey. We were still on time to get to Harrisburg, and so, cabin fever successfully avoided, we got back on the road to make the home stretch.

Soon we were in Grandma’s neighborhood, parking on the street, and unpacking the food from the trunk. It was at this point that I realized I hadn’t heard the dreaded “Are we there yet?” question during the entire journey. The drive had been quick, easy, and genuinely enjoyable – thanks to Nexit.

And so our road trip was finished! During this holiday season, it’s important to be thankful for all the wonderful things in life. I’m thankful for my loved ones, my friends, and my kids – and I’m thankful for Nexit for getting us to our destination stress-free!
